Get Ready
For existing lawns:
Make sure your seed hits the soil. Mow low. Try your lowest setting, and don't let the cut grass sit there, bag it up! Rake up anything left behind, then use your rake to loosen the top layer of the soil.
For new lawns:
It's all about making sure your seed gets to the soil! Loosen the top layer of soil and remove any of the dead stuff.
